NOTE: As per EASA IR 21, a minor change is one that has no appreciable effect on the
mass, balance, structural strength, reliability, operational characteristics affecting the
airworthiness of the product. All other changes are major changes.
REASON/DESCRIPTION/OPERATIONAL CONSEQUENCES
Following a recent in-service event, as a precautionary measure, Airbus requires to suspend the
installation of the AOA (Angle Of Attack) conic plates as per Operator Information Transmission (OIT)
No. 999.0086/12, currently performed through an Airbus monitored campaign with Service Bulletin No.
A340-34-5081.
This modification requires the removal of the conic plates PN F3411060200000 and PN
F3411060900000, and the installation of flat plates PN F3411007920200 (LH) / PN F3411007920300
(RH).
Also, it requires to change the 3 AOA Sensor Protection Covers (FINs 7955ME, 7956ME and 7957ME)
stored in Flight Kit No 2 (FIN 7500NW or FIN 7503NW).
Refer to OIT No. 999.0086/12 and FOT No. 999.0089/12 for further explanations.
For aircraft already fitted with the AOA conic plates through retrofit or from production, Airbus released
associated operational recommendations in an FOT No. 999.0089/12, the Operations Engineering
Bulletin (OEB) 45 and Flight Manual (FM) Temporary Revision 294.
This Service Bulletin modifies the Ground System Equipment (the AOA Protection Covers) needed for
parking, mooring or storing the aircraft.

SERVICE BULLETIN
SUMMARY
Accomplishment of this Service Bulletin cancels OEB 45 and FM TR294. It is expected that an
Airworthiness Directive (AD) published by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) will be issued
to confirm this cancellation.
This Service Bulletin modifies the Ground System Equipment (the AOA Protection Covers) needed for
parking, mooring or storing the aircraft.
The operational consequence of this Service Bulletin is the modification of the Flight Manual (FM) and
Flight Crew Operating Manual (FCOM) by removing temporary operational measures introduced by
OEB 45, FOT No. 999.0089/12 and FM TR294.

C. REASON
(1) History
Following a recent in-service event, as a precautionary measure, Airbus requires to
suspend the installation of the AOA (Angle Of Attack) conic plates as per Operator
Information Transmission (OIT) No. 999.0086/12, currently performed through an Airbus
monitored campaign with Service Bulletin No. A340-34-5081.
(2) Objective/Action
This modification requires the removal of the conic plates PN F3411060200000 and PN
F3411060900000, and the installation of flat plates PN F3411007920200 (LH) / PN
F3411007920300 (RH).
Also, it requires to change the 3 AOA Sensor Protection Covers (FINs 7955ME, 7956ME
and 7957ME) stored in Flight Kit No 2 (FIN 7500NW or FIN 7503NW).

(3) Advantages
Refer to OIT No. 999.0086/12 and FOT No. 999.0089/12 for further explanations.
(4) Operational/Maintenance Consequences
For aircraft already fitted with the AOA conic plates through retrofit or from production,
Airbus released associated operational recommendations in an FOT No. 999.0089/12,
the Operations Engineering Bulletin (OEB) 45 and Flight Manual (FM) Temporary
Revision 294.
This Service Bulletin modifies the Ground System Equipment (the AOA Protection
Covers) needed for parking, mooring or storing the aircraft.
Accomplishment of this Service Bulletin cancels OEB 45 and FM TR294. It is expected
that an Airworthiness Directive (AD) published by the European Aviation Safety Agency
(EASA) will be issued to confirm this cancellation.
This Service Bulletin modifies the Ground System Equipment (the AOA Protection
Covers) needed for parking, mooring or storing the aircraft.
The operational consequence of this Service Bulletin is the modification of the Flight
Manual (FM) and Flight Crew Operating Manual (FCOM) by removing temporary
operational measures introduced by OEB 45, FOT No. 999.0089/12 and FM TR294.
D. DESCRIPTION
To accomplish this Service Bulletin it is necessary to :

E. COMPLIANCE
(1) Classification
MANDATORY: Service Bulletin must be accomplished.
(2) Accomplishment Timescale
Accomplishment of this Service Bulletin must be done at the earliest opportunity where
manpower and facilities are available but within 5 months from the initial Service Bulletin
date.
This Service Bulletin has been classified Mandatory. It is expected that an Airworthiness
Directive (AD) published by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) will be issued
to confirm this classification. It is anticipated that the AD will confirm the threshold
given above but reference should be made to the AD for confirmation of the mandated
accomplishment timescale.
F. APPROVAL
The technical content of this document is approved under the authority of Design
Organisation Approval No. EASA.21J.031.
If an aircraft listed in the effectivity has a modification or repair embodied that is not of
AIRBUS origin, and which affects the content of this Service Bulletin, the operator is
responsible for obtaining approval by its airworthiness authority for any adaptation necessary
before incorporation of the Service Bulletin.
G. MANPOWER
The manpower estimates given in this Service Bulletin are based on the direct labor cost to
do the work. These estimates assume that the work will be done by experienced personnel,
and may need to be revised upwards to suit operator’s circumstances. The estimates do not
include the time to prepare, plan or inspect the work. Manufacture and procurement of parts
and tools, drying times for paints, sealants, etc., and general administration work are also not
included.
